Key Stage 4

After years in teaching, we have looked in to many exam boards to make sure we choose the best for our students.

Aqa is the exam board we currently use, with a range of exam material available online for students to revise and use at their needs.

Many revision books can also be found online with the school able to help direct to inparticular books!

Students sit eiher the higher or the foundation papers.

Year 10

Classwork and Assessment

Outline each term/half term - topics, skills, enrichment.

ASSESSMENT

Mini topic tests are carried out at the end of every individual topic that you can see on the learning journey.

Each student then has their individual test analysed, identifying where they are excelling and where they still need help.

This is where the students will have a lesson for feedback, allowing students to work independently on their weaknesses using sparx. On the left you can see an example of this, with the colours showing clear indicators on topics the student needs to work on. Within the lesson, they will type in the code relating to this question, watch videos, and have help from their teachers to make a start on correcting their mistakes.

End of term and year assessments are then used in the year to collect data based from the topics they have covered in the year up to that point.

This gives us flexibility of moving students within classes, to make sure they are exactly where they need to be, but also where students need intervention with areas of weaknesses.

Our starters also offer support with areas of weaknesses, where we can use questions the class have struggled on, and allow the students more time to see the type of question, gaining practice over time.

Year 11

Classwork and Assessment

In year 11, most students have a clear understanding of what papers they will be sitting in regards to Higher or foundation. However, it may be some students show the ability to try the 2 papers so we can get the best out of each and every student.

PPEs are in the calender for the year 11 students, and these are the key guidence for each teacher, to allow us to mould a curriculum for each of our classes! This allows us to tailor our lessons to fit our students in our classes.

The PPEs also help us identify any students that are in need of intervention if they are not hitting their target.

Each students will have an individual sheet given to them, showing each question in the exam and clearly show the areas of weaknesses the student needs to work on.

Parents can play a huge role here aswell, by seeing the topics, and guiding their child/children to revise on these topics at home.
